Our Approach

At WSCS, we believe that lower school experiences shape a student’s lifelong love for learning. Our school is more than just a place of education—it’s a second home, where children feel accepted, valued, and cherished. We partner with families to provide a supportive, faith-driven community, offering open communication and guidance to help navigate the joys and challenges of lower school. Curiosity, play, and exploration are at the heart of our daily experiences, fostering a warm and engaging atmosphere where students can thrive.

Our Philosophy

We are committed to developing the whole child—spiritually, academically, socially, and physically—in a loving and nurturing environment. Every student is created with unique gifts and a God-given potential, and our goal is to cultivate their natural curiosity through developmentally appropriate, hands-on learning. Students are challenged in an enclosed classroom, utilizing the expertise of a gifted teacher. Students are also exposed to specials that By integrating faith and education, we encourage children to grow in both knowledge and character, equipping them for future success.

Spiritual Development

At WSCS, we recognize the sacred responsibility of partnering with parents in the spiritual development of their children. We believe that planting the seeds of God’s Word at an early age helps students develop a strong foundation in wisdom, kindness, and Biblical truth. Students experience Christ-centered teaching, in an environment where children learn to love God, others, and themselves in a meaningful way.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is eclectic. We utilize Houghton Mifflin’s Into Reading to create a foundation of phonics and a love for reading, and this curriculum parallels our Social Studies and History curriculum. Math is taught using a spiral method of reinforcement with Saxon Math. Science and Bible curriculum is from the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), offering sound biblical truths and the opportunity to pursue creation through the lens of the Creator.

ACSI Bible – Strengthening faith and understanding of God’s Word.
Saxon Math creates a strong foundation for Math facts as well as continued reinforcement of concepts.
Art & Music – Encouraging creativity, expression, and fine motor development.
Science & Exploration – Introducing hands-on learning through discovery and experimentation through ACSI Science
Language Arts, Stories & Storytelling – Enhancing language skills, reading fluency, critical thinking and imagination.

Enrichment Activities

Beyond core academics, we integrate enriching, hands-on experiences that inspire curiosity and creativity:

Hands on Science Experiments - Students explore science, technology, engineering, and math through interactive, hands-on projects, sparking a sense of wonder about the world around them.

The Arts – Through engaging songs, rhythm activities, and creative expression, students develop coordination, confidence, and a love for music. Our students participate in 2 stage productions to develop their musical and theatrical skills. Students develop a love of both performance and art under the watchful instruction of a specialized teacher!

Physical Education and Recess - Play is an important aspect of development. Students participate in PE as well as have recess every day.

Project Based Learning - Science Fair Projects, Poster Boards, Wax Museum, Story of the World, Entrepreneurs Marketplace, and Science Extravaganza are a handful of examples of education coming to life. These event based activities allow our students to collaborate and put their talents and abilities on display.

At WSCS ELC, every child is encouraged to learn, grow, and discover their God-given potential in a safe, joyful, and faith-filled environment.

Come experience the difference at WSCS - where faith, learning, and fun come together!
