Micaela, Class of 2017

“In my Education 510 class at UNC Chapel Hill, we have learned about the system of educación in Mexico-an exchange of authentic respect and caring between students and teachers. While other students in my class shared horror stories from their education experiences, I reflected with a grateful heart upon my own experience at WSCS.

I recalled the lively debates during class, where every student felt welcome to share their voice. I remembered our chess and spades games during lunch, accompanied by conversation and laughter. I reflected on my memories within the walls of WSCS that formed me, where I felt fully cared for. Above all else, WSCS fostered an environment in which I could develop my identity and chase my dreams. Academics, athletics, clubs, and school events constituted my experience and prepared me for success at UNC Chapel Hill, but it was the family that I found at WSCS that I am most grateful for.

This family allowed me to develop my dreams and equipped me to chase them. I hope to implement this system of educación in my future classroom as an educator, in which every student is authentically known and authentically cared for. Not only does WSCS prepare students for success, but it prepares us to change the world and follow our dreams, with the support of our WSCS family at our side. “
