Nate Haley, Class of 2021

At my old school I tried to get my teachers to hate me. I thought they didn’t understand me and did nothing in school.  I thought that they didn’t care and so I didn’t have to care. I thought that school was a joke. I got in fights and got kicked out.

When I came to my new school I got suspended on purpose the first day. I still had a lot of anger and I tried to turn that against my teachers. But the difference was that these teachers didn’t give up on me. They kept at me and convinced me that they cared and that I should care too.

Now my teachers are family and I can talk to them about anything. I take school seriously and I know I can learn to do things and that I need school to be successful.

Had I not come to WSCS I would have been on a bad road and would have kept repeating the cycles I was in.  I never thought college was an option for me before but now I know I can do it. WSCS is my home and I’m a better person because of it.
