Aaron, Class of 2021

“At my old school, the friends I had were not always the friends I needed. Everyone here is a much better influence. The peer pressure to make bad choices was much higher at my old school but everyone here encourages you to grow and make better choices.

I also like the diversity—here everyone is family and I feel much more comfortable.

My first year in high school, I had a sub the entire year in math class and didn’t really learn what I needed to in order to be successful in my future math classes. Once I got here we were able to figure out what I needed and rearrange my schedule so I could take that class again and be successful.

I’ve also grown a lot in my faith here. My relationship with God is better and now I know how to pray and what the Bible is for.

I also have better relationships with my teachers. Before I felt like they just wanted to get class out of the way, but teachers here respect us as people and will do what’s needed to help you achieve.”

Abigail, Class of 2021

“Before WSCS, I never saw myself as a leader or someone who took AP classes. I went to a public school where class sizes ranged from 20-40 kids so teacher relationships weren’t common. The teachers here are invested in pushing you to be the best version of yourself. They not only focus on the education aspect but the life skills and personal growth of each and everystudent. Being a Christian in a public school I felt alone and didn’t have the chance to always surround myself with other Christians. It’s hard to grow in your faith without the encouragement of others around you. I never thought an educational lesson could turn into a biblical based lesson where I can learn more. WSCS has given me opportunities to grow in my faith and has shown me things about myself I didn’t know about. I’m now a house leader of Dianoia, an AP student, and the most confident I’ve ever been in myself. “

Jasmine, Class of 2018

“WSCS teaches us to love God, His people, and His things. As I have met new friends at UNC Chapel Hill, they are often amazed at how relatable I am because I come from a Christian school. They often worry that I that will judgmental and elitist. WSCS has such a diverse student population. I have been able to establish connection with those who think, look, and behave differently than I do. I have learned to debate without being argumentative. How to disagree without being hurtful, and how to be competitive yet compassionate. WSCS is more than just a school, though it is a great one. WSCS made me a better person. When I struggled with balancing competition with compassion, my teachers were there for me. When I had to make a decision about where to go to college, my teachers and school family were there. This school not only prepares people for academic success, they also prepare you for life, and to me that was just as valuable as the education.”

Nate Haley, Class of 2021

At my old school I tried to get my teachers to hate me. I thought they didn’t understand me and did nothing in school.  I thought that they didn’t care and so I didn’t have to care. I thought that school was a joke. I got in fights and got kicked out.

When I came to my new school I got suspended on purpose the first day. I still had a lot of anger and I tried to turn that against my teachers. But the difference was that these teachers didn’t give up on me. They kept at me and convinced me that they cared and that I should care too.

Now my teachers are family and I can talk to them about anything. I take school seriously and I know I can learn to do things and that I need school to be successful.

Had I not come to WSCS I would have been on a bad road and would have kept repeating the cycles I was in.  I never thought college was an option for me before but now I know I can do it. WSCS is my home and I’m a better person because of it.

Madison, Class of 2015, WSPD Sheriff

“For me, WSCS was instrumental in shaping the way I thought. Prior to coming to WSCS, My entire life I was always taught what to think, but from the time I came to WSCS in 2011 up until I graduated, I went from regurgitating what I was to think, to forming my own thoughts on things based on the fact that Jesus Christ is the savior of the world. WSCS instilled in me Christ centered thinking and showed me the true value of communal engagement with those near and far; loving all of God’s creation equally.”

Trey, Class of 2016

“Winston Salem Christian School changed my life forever and challenged me to grow in ways I never knew I could. I believe the teachers saw more in me than I ever realized. I was able to get early exposure to medicine through my internship and I was put in leadership positions that made me really mature.

All my experiences at WSCS helped prepare me for my time at NC State. I'm in a servant leadership scholarship program called the Caldwell Fellows Program, and the lessons I learned in my leadership class helped pave the way for when I applied to the program.

WSCS has been more than a school experience, but a family experience. I have been able to grow and express myself in ways I never realized. I have life long friendships and relationships that I wouldn't have for WSCS. I'm so thankful for my time at WSCS and investing so much in my life. I wouldn't be the person I am today without WSCS.”

Micaela, Class of 2017

“In my Education 510 class at UNC Chapel Hill, we have learned about the system of educación in Mexico-an exchange of authentic respect and caring between students and teachers. While other students in my class shared horror stories from their education experiences, I reflected with a grateful heart upon my own experience at WSCS.

I recalled the lively debates during class, where every student felt welcome to share their voice. I remembered our chess and spades games during lunch, accompanied by conversation and laughter. I reflected on my memories within the walls of WSCS that formed me, where I felt fully cared for. Above all else, WSCS fostered an environment in which I could develop my identity and chase my dreams. Academics, athletics, clubs, and school events constituted my experience and prepared me for success at UNC Chapel Hill, but it was the family that I found at WSCS that I am most grateful for.

This family allowed me to develop my dreams and equipped me to chase them. I hope to implement this system of educación in my future classroom as an educator, in which every student is authentically known and authentically cared for. Not only does WSCS prepare students for success, but it prepares us to change the world and follow our dreams, with the support of our WSCS family at our side. “

Mason, Class of 2018

“For many years I always knew there was something right about WSCS! 12+ years of my life have been involved in this school and I loved every second of it! I always knew the friends were actually family and the teachers were loving and caring. Without WSCS I would not be in the position I am in today. When my mother passed last year in January I knew that they would be the first people I could go to! Without WSCS I would never be the person I am today!”
