Experiential Learning

Learning from Doing

We believe that learning never stops. Learning happens through DOING. We take every opportunity to provide experiences for our students to learn outside the classroom. See below for just a few of our traditional field trips we plan for our students.

First Grade Train Trip

The train trip is a marathon of fun! Students visit the Train Museum in Spencer, and then ride the train from High Point to Charlotte and spend the day exploring Discovery Place in Charlotte.

Sound to Sea

Each year our fifth grade class takes a couple of days away on the Outer Banks learning about the ecosystems of our state. This trip is a highlight of every 5th grader’s year and provides an opportunity for some of our parents to get away too!

Washington, D.C.

Our eighth graders have the time of their lives visiting the nation’s capitol. Each year is slightly different but always includes trips to the Capitol Building, Supreme Court, Nighttime Monument Walk, Supreme Court, and Museum of Natural History, Arlington National Cemetery with participation in the wreath laying ceremony, plus much more!

9/10 Trip

Our Lowerclassmen visit a U.S. city each year as a group. Past trips have included Atlanta, GA, visiting the Center for Civil Rights, Georgia Aquarium, Martin Luther King Memorial, and much more. This trip rotates each year to allow students to visit multiple cities. Our plans for the future are to rotate between an East Coast College tour and a visit to Atlanta, GA.

11/12 Trip

Our upperclassmen trip rotates allowing each high school student to participate in 4 different trips while enrolled. Past trips have included Boston, Orlando and New York City. Our most recent New York Trip included the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Rowing Boats in Central Park, the Met, and a Broadway Play. Our plans for this trip are to rotate between visits to New York City, NY and Chicago, IL.
